Extract

Tinned malt extract and beer kits from Morgans, Mangrove Jack's, Coopers and Black Rock — the quickest way from an empty fermenter to finished beer, and still the best way to learn what each ingredient actually does.

A hopped kit is a whole recipe in a tin: mix it with brewing sugar or dry malt, top up with water, pitch the yeast and wait. Unhopped extract goes the other way — it supplies the fermentables and you build the beer around it with your own hops and steeped grain.
